Oral Hygiene Care

Regular Dental Checkups Toronto ON
Hygiene Visits Are an Essential Part of Good Health
We emphasize the importance of having dental cleanings by our hygienist, which do more than keep your teeth and gums healthy – they help prevent serious health conditions like diabetes, stroke, and cardiovascular problems.

Plaque that is not removed with brushing will harden into tartar. This cannot be taken off with a toothbrush and instead needs professional treatment. Tartar that has been left on the surface of teeth or below the gumline will result in decay and even worse, gum disease. Please take our recommendation seriously to stay healthy!

It is our goal for this and all generations of children to be relieved of dental anxiety. Our parents have told us we are accomplishing this goal! We will help any active or scared child feel comfortable and relaxed.

Preventive Dentistry

Prevent Tooth Loss with Health GumsThe #1 Reason for Missing Teeth
Most teeth are lost due to gum disease, not decay. Sometimes there are no signs of infected gums until the problem is at an advanced stage. Symptoms include loose or shifting teeth and bleeding gums while brushing or flossing. When periodontal (gum) disease is remedied in the earlier stages, nonsurgical methods can be effective. At a severe stage, surgery may be the only option.

Gum Disease Can Affect Serious Health ConditionsHeart Disease and Gum DiseaseResearch has shown that gum disease can be far more harmful to your health than just losing your teeth. A link has been established between gum disease and serious health conditions such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Further, statistics indicate that 80% of the adult population has gum disease at some stage. At this percentage, many dentists consider gum disease to be an epidemic.

Dental organizations state that "studies found periodontal infection may contribute to the development of heart disease, increase the risk of premature, underweight births, and pose a serious threat to people whose health is already compromised due to diabetes and respiratory diseases." The infection in the gums can travel through the bloodstream to vital organs, impacting other health conditions.

Effective Treatment without Surgery
Don't wait to come in and be treated for your gum infection. Waiting could mean gum surgery. Before the infection reaches an advanced state, nonsurgical procedures can be very effective, together with improved oral hygiene. Both options are generally covered under dental insurance plans.

How Does Losing a Tooth Cause Other Problems?

Even one tooth can cause other teeth to shift or loosen, possibly losing those teeth as well. Less teeth means absorbing fewer nutrients from your food. Your diet may change to softer foods, adding unwanted pounds to your weight. Bone loss from one or more missing teeth causes your face to look sunken. This adds years to your appearance. Speech can be affected too, leading to self-consciousness and embarrassment.

Dental implants are the best solution for one or more missing teeth. They look and function like real teeth and will give you a beautiful smile that is just right for you.

An Alternative to Gum Surgery
As new dental procedures evolve, more options are available for treating gum disease. Gum surgery can be avoided if this condition is treated before it reaches a severe level. The use of a laser often replaces surgery. It is considered almost a miraculous advancement, as it is an easy, minimally invasive, and painless procedure that is very effective. It is safe and can actually help improve the bone that is often lost due to gum disease.

Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry Toronto ON
Relaxation Dentistry Will Ease You Through Treatment
We want all our patients to feel at ease with the treatment they need, so we offer two comfort options to either take the edge off your stress or eliminate it completely. With nitrous oxide or conscious sedation dentistry, you'll be so comfortable, you'll wonder why you waited so long.

The first option is nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. When you inhale the gas through a mask, the medication brings you to a mildly relaxed state. The use of local anesthetic will eliminate pain, as well. After treatment is over, the effects of the nitrous oxide wear off quickly, and you can safely drive yourself home or to work.

The other option is oral conscious sedation, which is great if you have stronger fears or need a lot of work done in one visit. About an hour before your appointment, you take a pill that we've provided. Gradually you reach a very relaxed state. You can respond when asked questions, but you will not be aware of the work being performed. When your procedure is completed, someone drives you home. You are completely conscious but feel a little sleepy.

You are not completely out as if for surgery. You retain a level of consciousness, but an unawareness of the procedure. This is important to know, as some patients have an even greater fear of being completely unconscious. This sedation is a viable medium between maintaining control and letting go of fear.

Our goal is for every patient to feel relaxed at every visit. We look forward to working with you to provide you with quality dental care in a comfortable, relaxed manner.

Implant Dentistry

Dental Implants Dentist Toronto ON
Dental Implants Give You a Full and Beautiful Smile
For one or many missing teeth, dental implants will recapture a full and beautiful smile. They function like real teeth so you can choose the types of foods you like. They look like your natural teeth as they come up through the gums, instead of just sitting on top the gums like dentures or bridges. After a specialist inserts a titanium post, Dr. Charlat will create a restoration with a perfect fit.

This can greatly benefit those with no teeth, as dental implants can replace dentures – which means you won't have to worry about movement and slippage and the associated embarrassing problems anymore.

Dental Crowns Dentist

CEREC Single Visit Dental Crowns Toronto ONNatural-Looking Crowns in About an Hour
If you've ever had a crown, you're familiar with the routine. Over a period of two weeks, you have an impression made of the damaged tooth and a temporary crown inserted. You return to the dentist to have the permanent crown placed, maybe to find the fit is incorrect. Then the wait becomes more than two weeks.

With modern technology, all the waiting has been reduced to just one hour! Dr. Charlat can provide a custom-fitting crown while you sit in the dental chair. With CEREC™, he designs the crown that is automatically milled from the computer image. The crown is long lasting and natural looking, durable, and functions with your natural teeth.

During the process, a reflective powder is applied to the tooth. With a specific type of camera, a very accurate picture is taken of the tooth. This image is displayed on our computer screen, allowing us to design the crown. After CEREC creates the restoration, Dr. Charlat will bond it to the remaining natural tooth structure.

Patients appreciate how easy it is having a crown made and placed with CEREC. You will be pleased how quick and easy it is too!
